The Federal Government said yesterday it had earmarked a total sum of N9 billion to combat the H1N1 pandemic, otherwise known as swine flu. It also declared that the battle for eradication of guinea worm scourge that ravaged some states in the country in the last decade was effectively over.

Memphis child dies from swine flu
Another Mid-South child has died after complications with the H1N1 swine flu. This time, it was a 12 year old boy. The death is the second in less than a week at LeBonheur Children's Medical Center. Tuesday, doctors announced their concern over a slight spike in numbers of children admitted to the hospital with flu-like symptoms.
Doctors predict more cases of the swine flu will surface over the next few weeks. Starting February, another round of the virus is expected to sweep the country.
The Minnesota Health Department released its weekly updated on Wednesday. There are no new cases of the H1N1 flu in the state. The department says 55 people have died of confirmed swine flu infections in Minnesota since the outbreak in 2009.
